Edward Cullen has been working as a hit man since college, but he has always had one major rule: no women. When a Mexican drug cartel boss enlists his help to tie up some loose ends, he's hesitant to accept the job. Especially when he sees the brown eyed beauty staring back at him from the file. Bella Swan - the beautiful girl from the photo - looked too innocent to be involved with drugs, and his hesitation towards the job grows. After meeting said girl, he eventually decides to fake her murder by staging a scene, send pictures to his boss, and take Bella somewhere she'll be safe. Posing as a recently eloped couple, they cross the border to Mexico and blend in the more touristic areas. But Bella is hesitant to get closer to Edward since he was hired by the man who murdered her mother back in Phoenix. He can't blame her for being more reserved but is determined to help her open up to him and find out more about why Bella's mother was killed. Unfortunately, the cartel responsible has connections in hospitals and law enforcement and though Renee's death was ruled a suicide, no one believes that is the truth...

kts may ring a bell as she also wrote A Slow Boil. The Western is very different from her most popular story though as it is definitely not a fluffy fic. It's more mystery mixed in with romance and stars characters, whose complicated characters are only explored step by step and who experience a romance that needs time to build. Chapter after chapter, the reader will be able to connect more and more dots until, eventually, all secrets are revealed. Personally, I found The Western to be one of the best written fanfictions I've ever read. It truly is well-phrased and told from Edward's point of view. There are twists and turns in the plot but no angst; just a hint of drama. I would not pass up reading this wonderful fanfiction.

The Western is rated M for language, mention of drugs, and sexual content. It consists of 25 chapters and 89,662 words.
