"At Her Mercy" by shadowed by passion 2

Dr. Bella Swan could actually be quite proud of her achievements in life. She is considered to be one of the best doctors in her field and even takes over difficult cases from outside the U.S. Together with her team, Bella miraculously manages to help almost all of her patients, yet there are also times when she has to acknowledge that there is nothing she can do. It is after losing one particular close patient of hers that the young doctor is overcome by extreme guilt and sadness. The confidence in her skills drops immensely and it crosses her mind more than once that she might not be as perfect and wonderful as her colleagues claim her to be. So when her college mentor and brilliant physician, Carlisle Cullen, calls her up to aid her in treating his son Edward, Bella is more than hesitant in accepting the case. After much coaxing on Carlisle's part, however, Bella agrees and is surprised to learn that this new, seriously ill patient will fly all the way from New York to Chicago to see her...

Edward Cullen, Bella's patient, has gotten extremely sick quite suddenly and all doctors that he had consulted so far were unable to come to a conclusion as to what he had come down with. Despite being Edward incredibly sick, he is also breathtakingly handsome; so when he eventually meets Bella at the hospital, sparks fly between them instantly. But Bella can't help but stay away from him due to professional reasons and the fact that he had a not-so-caring wife... So she focuses on her task at hand to treat him rather than have a relationship with him. After running some tests and treatments, Bella finds out that her sexy patient didn't just happen to get sick so suddenly, instead he was actually poisoned. Considering how much the poison was already in his body and how his health was deteriorating by the second, she realizes that the criminal must be a close friend or a family member. The question was, who would want to kill Edward and why? Will Bella be able to save Edward and also find the courage to admit her feelings for him?

Another great fic by shadowed by passion! This drabble fic is mostly told from Bella's point of view, which enables the reader to really connect well to the situation she finds herself stuck in. As a passionate doctor, she considers treating Edward her own personal challenge and does everything in her power to help him. The fact that she has developed deep feelings for him just adds to her motivation to get him well again. She examines Edward meticulously through a series of procedures and tests, which are mentioned and described in a more than authentic way, yet without being tiresome. In fact, the whole story is very entertaining as you never expect what comes next! The many unexpected twists and turns that the story will come to will keep you on your toes and you'll probably never be able to guess who the real culprit is! Chapter by chapter on secret after the next is unraveled and the suspense is graspable. At Her Mercy is an extremely heartfelt story that combines mystery and romance. A highly recommendable story that you simply shouldn't miss.

At Her Mercy consists of 54 chapters and a total of 42,511 words. The story is rated M for language and sexual references.

When the laptop of attorney Bella Swan refuses to work, she seeks immediate help by dialing the number of her company's tech support. Her call is received by Edward Masen, who manages to log into her computer and begins fixing her problem right away. While doing that, however, he can't help but being utterly fascinated by the voice he hears on the other end of the line and loses every coherent thought when he sees a photo of her; set as the desktop wallpaper. This woman is breathtakingly beautiful and talking to him; a fact that maneuvers Edward right into a full blow panic attack. From an early age, Edward has never been good with people and has neither left his house for seven years nor let anyone except his aunt Esme touch him. Anxiety attacks forced him to withdraw from life and to suddenly meet someone he genuinely cares about is something he just doesn't know how to deal with...

Bella feels drawn to Edward the moment their conversation starts on the phone. When he's more and more unable to hold up a normal conversation, she doesn't hesitate and makes sure he gets help as quickly as possible. From then on, she makes sure to keep in contact with Edward via email as she simply can't get him out of her head - he is a real mystery to her but immensely fascinating at the same time. When she finally manages to visit Edward at home, she learns more and more about his psychological disorder. Yet instead of pulling away and leaving him with his family (he doesn't have any friends), Bella feels drawn to him and unable to let go. She is willing to help him get better and does everything in her power to give Edward his life back. Unfortunately, the young IT expert thinks very little of himself and can't believe that anyone would want to spend time with a mess and weirdo like him. It'll take all of Bella's patience and love to convince him otherwise...

When I started reading Life Support I had no clue it would focus on such a serious topic. In fact, I thought that the way Edward reacted to Bella in the beginning was pretty cute and funny and I couldn't help the small grin that came over my face. To say I was surprised, even slightly shocked, to find out the real reason for his nervousness, would be an understatement. As someone who has some experience with that kind of sickness herself, I can only say that shadowed by passion did a great job in portraying the difficulties that come along with it. Cases like Edward's are relatively rare but they exist and it takes the support and love of friends and family to help these patients get better. Bella is incredibly sweet in this story, giving Edward all the time he needs. Feather light touches and sitting close to each other are already tiny milestones for the two of them. It takes a while for Edward to be able to hold her hand and even kiss her without fainting. But Bella doesn't need all that and she and Edward fall in love with each other before they haven't so much as slept in the same bed together. Life Support is a wonderful story is written from Edward's and Bella's POV. It will get you thinking and won't leave your mind once you put it aside!

Life Support consists of 31 chapters and a total of 63,647 words. The story is rated M for foul language and lemons.
