"A Thousand Leaves" by BellaSunshine 1

Only one night was enough. Enough to tear two families apart. When Bella Swan comes home after a long day of school she finds her best friend's brother Edward Cullen standing over the bloodied body of her mother. Yes, Edward and her never really got along - but is the disdain he feels towards her and her parents really big enough to make him kill? The young man is picked up by the police and put into preliminary custody. He is soon accused of second-degree murder and must face a trial. Based on the circumstantial evidence presented in court as well as Bella's testimony, the jury finds that, beyond a reasonable doubt, Edward Cullen is guilty and needs to spend the rest of his life in prison. Bella decides to leave her terrible past behind her and moves away for college. It isn't until a couple of years later, when she returns to Forks and reunited with her father, that the young woman realizes that too many things just don't add up...

Having a degree in journalism, Bella takes up a job as a local crime reporter. While doing some research she stumbles upon old files of her mother's case. It seems as if Bella's predecesor, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances a couple of years ago, wanted the files to be found. After going through some of the evidence and testimonies Bell finds herself with dozens of questions. What did really happen the night Renee Swan was murdered? Was Edward Cullen guilty? A race against time begins as Bella desperately tries to right the wrongs and free an innocent man.

This story is not as dark as it might appear. Rather, A Thousand Leaves is loaded with tons of suspense and takes you on a hell of a rollercoaster of emotions. BellaSunshine's writing style is engaging and makes it hard for you to put the story away. Most probably you will finish this fanfiction quicker than any other story of similiar length as you will simply have the NEED (that's right, I said need not want) to know what happens next! Wonderful characters like Bella and Rosalie also give the often rather heavy story a softer, more feminine side. Bella changes immensely throughout the story and on more than one occasion has to ask herself if what she believed to be true might actually only have been half of what really happened. Definitely a good read!

A Thousand Leaves consists of 41 chapters and a total of 196,783 words. The story is rated MA for themes, violence, and mention of rape. Five outtakes from this story can be found here.
