The latest discussion, 19-year-old college student Bella Swan has in class, leaves her wondering about what it must be like for a soldier to be stationed in Iraq. Out of pure interest, she starts perusing the internet and stumbles upon a website that has profiles of hundreds of men currently serving in the army. One particular profile, belonging to Sergeant Edward Masen, captures her interest, as she can't help but feel that he was not like the other soldiers listed on the website. She immediately fishes out a pen and piece of paper and begins writing him a letter. However, she never expected to actually get a response, given the dangerous and hard circumstances the soldiers found themselves in. But low and behold, the next day, her adoptive parents Carlisle and Esme find a letter in their mailbox, addressed to for Bella. Needless to say, the young student is ecstatic and wastes no time in reading and writing back. It's the beginning of a beautiful pen friendship that soon turns into more...

For months, the two of them exchange multiple letters back and forth, getting to know each other and their respective lifestyles better and better. While Edward is able to connect his Bella with an actual face (she was able to send him photos), Bella is completely clueless as to what he looks like, yet falls for him nonetheless. When she gets a letter from him, in which he tells her that he will be getting fifteen days off soon, she jumps to the opportunity to invite him to stay with her and her adoptive parents. Though Edward is reluctant at first, he eventually agrees as he doesn't really have a place to go since. Unfortunately, none of his family is still alive. Those two weeks prove to be the best time of their lives. They learn even more about each other and even have the courage to proclaim their love. Both know that Edward will have to return to Iraq soon and he promises Bella that the next time he comes home, it will be forever as he plans quit his job as a Sergeant (aww!). Unfortunately, things don't exactly go as planned and Edward's horrendous past seems to catch up on him. Soon, his and Bella's lives are in danger and it's up to him alone to save them from harm...

Another fabulous story by 2carm2carm2! This fanfic will really pull at your heart-strings, the plot is so emotional. This story starts out really sweet, and you will be as eager as Bella to receive and read Edward's letters. The two of them are obviously attracted to each other before they even know what the other looks like and it's really sweet to read their lovely conversations. When the two finally meet and declare their love for each other, you will most probably melt from an overload of cuteness. Edward and Bella are extremely adorable with one another and you can't help but shed a tear or two when it's time for Edward to get back to Iraq. An unexpected twist leaves everything flipped upside down as it turns out that Edward hasn't told Bella about all of his dark past. It causes the story to take a sharp turn towards a very dangerous situation, our couple finds itself in. But rest assured that this fanfiction definitely has a HEA and all will be well! This is a MUST READ and deserves a HUGE APPLAUSE! Cheers to 2carm2carm for this fantastic story.

A long time ago, men never took opinions from women as they do today - the final decision was always that of the man. In accordance with these conventions, this fanfiction starts with the males of the Swan family ordering Bella to persuade King Edward into taking her his mistress. The King desperately wants an heir, yet his Queen, Tanya, is barren and won't be able to fulfill his wish. So it only seems natural for him to get a mistress, right? And if Charles Swan has his way, that mistress would be his daughter Bella, if nothing else then because of the fact that the Swan family would be crowned as the royal family. Also, Bella's older sister Alice could also finally get married to Duke Jasper. Bella, however, is far less ecstatic than her family members. Being a mistress, no, that definitely was never part of her aspiration, but alas, she acquieces to the wish of her family and with the help of Alice starts charming the king.

And it doesn't take long for King Edward and Bella to develop feelings for each other. Suddenly, her father's harsh words don't sound too bad for Bella for she soon realizes that she's in love with the King. Unfortunately for the couple, they are unable to progress in their relationship and get married as Edward is still tied up with Tanya. Due to the Queen's father's political affairs with Edward's kingdom, he can't simply break things off with his wife. On the evening of a royal ball, a small misunderstanding makes the King so furious that Bella finds herself banished from the kingdom for a couple of months. During her time in exile she meets the Edward's mother, Esme, who tells her about her son and his childhood. Hearing what Esme has to say makes Bella fall even more in love with Edward. And then she is finally called back to the kingdom the young woman begins her journey home with the strong intention of becoming the new Queen...

I will admit, the story does have it's flaws, grammatically speaking, but it still is really easy to understand and overall, The King's Mistress is an amazing story not to be missed! The reader is clearly able to feel for King Edward as he desperately wants an heir for his kingdom and also craves, albeit subconsciously, to encounter true love. And then Bella turns up and proves to be his soul mate in more ways than just providing him with children. With her extraordinary wit, she's able to help him in political affairs and problems in the council. She's the epitome of beauty yet also has quick mind. It is great to see how Bella finds herself in over the course of the story and learns to speak up - especially considering the time period the story is set in. Finally, it is wonderful to see the other canon couples, Alice & Japser and Rosalie & Emmett (though the latter won't become obvious until the very end) going through a small story of their own. This royal fanfic should definitey be read!
