When Bella Swan, the author of widely popular mystery books, decides to try writing a romance novel about her personal life, she doesn't expect her meddling agent and friend Alice Brandon to add a dedication the moment it is completed. Worldwide, people react to the mysterious dedication with immense interest and everyone wants to know who that person is, that one line refers to. However, Bella couldn't care less about it, because she suffers from writer's block and is unable to finish her current project. Alice suggests a change of scenery, an advice that Bella follows right away as she packs her bags and makes her way to Ireland. Once there, she runs straight into an old love...

Meanwhile, Emmett Cullen, who owns a vet practice in Ireland, asks his brother Edward to act as a substitute for him because he needs to go to Washington for a while. Edward agrees and travels to Ireland. A huge coincidence causes him to meet Bella, whom he hasn't seen in ten years; ever the beautiful young girl broke up with him in order to let him lead the life he always wanted and deserved. Her actions left Edward broken-hearted and with many unanswered questions. But just like Bella, he never stopped loving her and seeing her again in Ireland brings up old wounds as well as some hope. At the same time, Alice is trying to get the former love birds back together. She wants to bring "the one who got away" back into Bella's life but the questions is, does he even want that? Will Edward be able to deal with Bella's fame and the lack of privacy that goes along with it? Will Bella get her real-life "happily ever after"?

  

If you love a good plot, with romance, and a good amount of friendship, then this is the story for you. I loved this fanfiction with all its characters but especially the amazing chemistry that njwriter62 created between Edward and Bella. Little details and subplots make this fanfiction, that is completely written from a third-person perspective, even more interesting, even though the romance is always at the focus of the story.

The One That Got Away consists of 22 chapters and a total of 41,979 words. The story is rated T for some profanities.
