"Every day he passes and I let him, knowing that everything's wrong; wanting so much to fix it but scared to try. Sometimes doing nothing is the worst form of cowardice, and right now, he needs me to be brave."

When everything he loved goes away in an instant, Bella has to build up the strength to go and comfort her best friend and neighbor, Edward Cullen. It was only a few nights ago when they were both playing the game Scrabble that they received the devastating news from the police that Edward's wife and daughter had been in a fatal car accident. Ever since then, it's been as though Edward has given up living his own life and the dark circles under his eyes combined with the fake smile plastered on his face every time Bella sees him is too unbearable to witness. Bella has always had more feelings towards Edward than she should have considering he was married when they first met. But her connection with his family, including his wife Tanya and four-year-old daughter Bri was instant. It was as if they all just fit perfectly into her life and soon enough, they were all best friends. But when the two people that mattered so much to Edward went away, she couldn't help but go and comfort him, even though he was still living under the pretense that they were alive. Over the course of the next few months, Edward decides to move into Bella's house because his held too many memories, and discovers that maybe... just maybe he is allowed to fall in love again, and that his world might just survive with this brown-haired woman by his side.

This story is about losing the ones you love, getting up to live your life, and falling in love again. I will admit, it is definitely an angst-y read, but trust me when I say that you should miss out on this story at all. KiyaRaven has managed to bring tears into my eyes - and we all know how picky of a reader I am - in this fabulous one-shot which more than deserves the award she received for this story for the Anonymous Angst Contest. The pain that Edward goes through is truly heart breaking, and completely realistic for the things he has gone through. But Bella is the ultimate source of light that brings him back him and allows him to see that life goes on no matter what, and love can always be found again. It's great when he finally sees what Bella has been trying to say all along, and the HEA at the end of the story will make you sigh in happiness for our favorite couple. Don't hesitate to read this story just because it starts out with Edward being married or that it is an angst-filled story, because trust me when I say that this one-shot will be well worth the read. So go grab a box of tissues, and sit down on a comfy chair to read and finish this fabulous fanfiction which will have you occupied for the day. A quick, yet mind-blowing read that will steal your heart away!

Phoenix is a one-shot and consists of 12,201 words. The story is rated M for language, angst, and sexual content.
