Bella's been watching Edward for weeks, ever since he walked in 4 classes into the semester and sat a few rows behind her. Yet every time she's caught staring she's met with a scowl instead of a smile - until the day he calls her out on it during a smoke break between their shared 3-hour class. Their banter turns to flirting and soon... a friendship begins to form. But Edward is hiding something and Bella is determined to find out what it is. He's secretive, he always wears a hat, he's always fatigued and too prideful to admit he needs help. Help Bella is all too willing to give.

Working with her godmother Esme at her ballet studio, dealing with a step-monster, and being a shoulder for her charismatic roommate, Bella has lost her passion for dancing. It's not until she meets Edward and connects with him that she begins to find herself once again. Then Edward's secret finally comes to light - he's in remission after a rigorous round of chemo. All his attempts to push her away are fruitless, because it's too late. Bella's all in, and if Edward is being honest, he's all in, too.

I've probably read this fic about four times and each time it hits me in the heart. I love this story, it's so beautiful. It's heartbreaking to see how being sick has changed Edward and his family. How Bella has lost her passion in life and finds it again through love and compassion. Grand Jete is written in third person from Bella's point of view. Also, the epilogue is pretty creative and original, I enjoyed this fic so much. I'll probably read it again in a few weeks.
