At the tender age of nine, Bella Swan started both seeing and hearing the dead, whose those souls are still roaming the Earth because of unfinished business. Whether they seek revenge for an unnatural death or are unable to end the connection they have with important people from their old lives, the souls of the dead that Bella sees cannot seem to find the peace they need to finally leave the world behind. In order to help them find their way, Bella uses her rare gift to communicate with the dead and passes their messages on to their loved ones. Never in her life, did she perceive that her ability to talk with ghosts as anything but a huge liability; something she was never grateful for. Still, she continues helping many lost souls crossing over to the light and finding peace. So with the help of her good and equally gifted friend Alice, she seeks out the renowned Professor Edward Cullen. Bella sees a small girl, not older than eight years, who she soon is able to identify as the professor's daughter. The latter is giving a speech on parapsychology when Bella decides to confront Edward with the fact that his daughter is dead and that she didn't die from natural causes...

Although Edward is skeptic of Bella's abilities, he cannot help but start to believe her once she starts talking about his daughter Hayley. Until then, the professor always thought that his little girl was "only" missing, yet now he is confronted with her violent death. Bella tells him that Hayley cannot speak to her as water comes out of her mouth every time she tries to speak; leaving Edward devastated and broken. Hayley had been his everything despite the fact that she was born at a stage in his life where being a father was far from being on his mind. The connection father and daughter developed was immensely strong and perhaps the reason the little girl was still tied to the Earth - she couldn't leave this world behind knowing her father was hurting so badly. So with the help of Bella, Hayley communicates with her dad and the three start investigating her death. How did she die? A story full of mysteries and questions begins. Revelations are made; yet when the case is finally closed will Edward be able to let go of his daughter? Will Bella's love for him be enough for him to spend the rest of his life happily?

This is a very unique story by ericastwilight, and I say that in a very positive way! Even though MSB usually doesn't review AU stories, some are just too good not to be rec'ed. Ultimately, this story is AH but with a slight supernatural twist. The story is very fast-paced so that, at the end of the first chapter, you will definitely be hooked and eager to learn more. What I love most about this story is the deep connection between Edward and Hayley. They share such a strong bond that even after her death, Hayley stays grounded to Earth, willing to make sure her father isn't suffering. She watches him sleeping in her bed every night and often listens to him whispering words of love. Without ensuring his peace of mind, there is no way she can ever get peace. And when Bella comes along with her amazing ability, she is the link that brings the two of them back together again, at least sort of. She Speaks Fear and Truth is extremely heart-warming and daddyward's grief will surely bring out some tears in your eyes. I promise you that this fanfiction is SO worth the read; don't ignore it just because the summary says it is AU, because the story is a lot more than that. Hats off to ericastwilight for writing such an amazing fanfiction - I really enjoyed it and have no doubts you readers will too!

She Speaks Fear and Truth consists of 14 chapters and a total of 45,467 words. The story is rated M for language, strong emotions, and some sexual references. A sequel is currently being published, Denver Paranormal Society.
