It's been days since Bella Swan has left her apartment in New York. Ever she found her boyfriend Mike in flagranti with her former best friend Jessica, Bella is wallowing in self-pity and a broken heart. Until her friends Alice and Rosalie have enough, that is, and drag her all the way to a little yoga-retreat/spa in the woods of Western Massachussetts - to be more precise, the "Cullen Center for Yoga Arts". While Bella is more than skeptical at first - she is, after all, clumsy as hell - the young woman soon gets used to the idea and is pleasantly surprised when she sees who is gretting them once they arrive. Three very handsome young men: the first nothing but a gentlemen by helping the ladies out of their car and taking their luggage, the second more than eager to make the girls feel at home, and the third, oh the third, nothing short of an angel. Literally, the moment Bella runs into him, she is rendered speechless; her breath taken away. Deep, jade eyes and a chiseled jaw greet her and keep her from falling down the stairs. And as quickly as the man appears, he is gone again...

Bella soon learns that the angel-like man she is drooling after is the owner of the retreat, Edward Cullen. Together with his brother Emmett and their friend Jasper Hale, the three have worked hard to build a yoga center that would allow everyone to live in harmony with themselves and the environment. Therefore, no cell phones or alcohol are allowed, and the food is stricly vegetarian. As the center is almost booked out, Bella get's a room on the fourth floor where the staff stays. After having freshened up a bit, it's time for Bella's first yoga class, and, surprise, her instructor is none other than Edward. Though Edward seems to want to keep his distance from Bella, he has more than a hard time (no pun intended) as the sexual tension between the two is more than palpable. Whenever Edward helps Bella with one of the positions or talks to her outside of class, it becomes clear that he feels just as drawn to his student as she feels to her teacher. Yet even though Bella is more than willing to take things to the next step, Edward keeps pushing her away. His past is keeping him from connecting with Bella in the way he wants to and he desperately tries to ignore the temptation that she presents, until she, Alice and Rose will have to leave by the end of the weekend. But what will he do when she comes back, and this time, she stays for weeks? Will Edward share his secrets with Bella and finally let her in?

It's hard to believe that The Cullen Sutras is Magnolia822's first fanfiction. The story is not only gripping and wonderfully written, the characters are also convincingly portrayed and very likable. Edward's dark past has turned him into a broken young man, who is, more than anything, trying to make amends for what he believes to be his terrible mistakes. He pretty much carries the weight of the world on his shoulders and has difficulties letting anyone in. Until Bella comes along, that is. For her, it is hard to figure out the enigma that is Edward Cullen as he refuses to confide in her in the beginning. As the fanfic is written from Bella's and Edward's POV, the reader knows a lot more about Edward's secrets than she does. While we know what he dreams about at night, she doesn't understand why he is so afraid of falling asleep. Furthermore, she wants him, really wants him emotionally and physically, but Edward's self imposed celibacy prevents the latter from happening. That said, however, with the help of Bella, Edward soon learns to let go and give in to his feelings. Trust me, these two are working well together like a well-oiled machine and the lemons, once they are there, are wonderful to read. Enjoy this classic!

The Cullen Sutras consists of 36 chapters and a total of 186,863 words. The story is rated MA for lemons, angst, and some graphic violence.
