It's been a while since Bella has come back home to visit her family. Rather than spending time in Quitman, the small town in Mississippi she grew up in, Bella prefers staying in Jackson with her friends Jessica and Alice. But alas, every once in a while, one has to see the family and as Bella is currently on semester break, she decides to use that opportunity and drives down home. There, she is immediately dragged into the next bar by her gorgeous sister Tanya and runs straight into Edward Cullen. Edward has been Bella's secret crush since High School, where an unfortunate misunderstanding has prevented them from getting closer. Now, three years later, he still manages to make her heart beat quicker and gets her all flustered, but she refuses to only be one of his flings. What she doesn't know is that Edward's wild days are long gone (if they even existed in the first place) and that he longs to have a second chance with her. He was never really able to get her out of his mind, whether he used to be engaged or not, and now that she is back in town, he is willing to really get to know her. So the two go on date after date and get closer. Over the summer, they both learn a lot of new things about the other (and themselves) that astound and scare them. Edward is in the middle of building his own house and struggles with his decision to become a doctor. Bella feels insecure about her feelings for Edward, especially because she tends to run into women with whom he was involved at some point in time. Thinking that he still pines after his former fiancé, Bella decides to "let him go". Already in too deep, she leave her love behind and goes back to Jackson...
Down Home was written as an entry for the "The Heart of Country" contest and won pretty much every important prize that was awarded, including "1st Place Gentlemen Wear White Award (Swooniest Fella)". And what a swoony fella Edward is! He is a full-blown Southern boy, complete with Stetson and accent. His love for working outdoors brings Bella and the reader a lot of joy as that means at one point in time, he is going to lose his shirt *giggles*. He also wants his girl to spend the rest of his life with him and once Bella sees some reason, he doesn't hold back on telling her exactly that every opportunity he gets. The story is written from BPOV and EPOV, though the latter doesn't come until later in the story. The lemons are not overly graphic but sweetly written and lots of humor comes from the Chief a.k.a. Charlie, who scares Edward only a little bit. It's a lot of fun to read! MrsSpaceCowboy really deserves the praises and awards she's gotten for this little gem!And if you don't believe me, see for yourself!
Down Home consist of 12 chapters and 79,201 words. The story is rated M for tame lemons and some profanities.
