"A Child of the Night" by l'heure bleue

Constantly labeled as an outcast when young, Bella Swan was never able to have a normal childhood. Apart from her blindness, it was a terrible disease that kept her from being outside and socialize with others her age. Unable to be excposed to any form of daylight, Bella has to hide inside her house and is only able to step out once the sun sets. Then she loves walking towards the woods, a path she has memorized in her brain from an early age. One fateful night, Edward ranges the woods to vent his anger and let out some his frustrations. He finds himself staring at what he thinks of as an angel of beauty. The spark between the two is strong, and soon they find themselves looking forward to the time of day when darkness would surround them.

Unfortunately, a misunderstanding between Bella and Edward kicks off an avalanche of conflicts coming their way. When Bella doesn't return home after night turns into day, Edward is extremely worried. When he finally finds her, she needs to be taken to the hospital immediately and the story comes to a sudden moment of shock as the doctor reveals what really happened to Bella. The two lovers vow to stay at each other's side through thick and thin and their strong bond helps them doing exactly that. More than once, the couple is forced to jump the hurdles thrown in their way: Bella's sickness, her blindness, and eventually her pregnancy...

l'heure bleue doesn't keep around the bush when it comes to Bella's fateful sickness; in fact, you will find out about it within the first ten chapters of the story. However, what will probably fascinate you is how Edward and Bella stay together throughout the whole story - supporting each other and getting through all challenges that get thrown in their way. Furthermore, the supporting characters make for a number of interesting subplots, e.g. the innocence of little Alice and Jasper (they are both under the age of ten!) is absolutely adorable, and the story of Angela and Jake is rather touching (?). Hats off to the author for writing such a fabolous fanfiction! A story that not only touches your heart but is also filled with some irony; after all, in Bella's dark world, her most brilliant light is no other than Edward! But will she be able to survive this light? Will Bella ever be able to see? Will Edward and Bella's baby survive considering Bella's disabilities? A story that you definitely shouldn't miss!
