"Honest Liar" by aWhiteBlankPage

Edward Cullen is a broken man. His life is full of conjured up lies in his mind and double standards - none of which he thinks he can match up to. He claims that he hates the idea of smoking and drinking - in fact, he has seen how that has affected his father first-hand - and yet he continues both every single day. He is determined to quit those bad habits the next day, or the next, or the next... but the cycle continues. There is only one light in his entire universe: his wife, Bella. They had been high school sweethearts and she had held his hand even back then, when he was already starting to tumble down a bad road. To him, she was always too good to be true, with the extreme wealth that she came from and the sparkly golden Mercedes she drove, there was absolutely nothing she should see in him that was even close to attractive. But she does, and by some miracle, their love for each other leads to marriage. He thinks that she is believing all of his lies - but maybe she has just... stopped. When his addiction to drugs get uncontrollable, will Bella be able to stand by his side or will it take her lack of presence for him to finally see what he is doing to his own life?

Honest Liar is not told in a typical linear timeline, but the odd timed chapters only make it more fascinating to read. Each chapter is like a puzzle of Edward's story, just like Edward's life really is. It's ironic how Edward's life is just as jumbled up as the chapters are, and when everything finally fits perfectly in the end, so does his life. A chapeau to aWhiteBlankPage for such creative writing! Edward is truly a troubled man - and he has his reasons from what he has seen in his parents - and all he needs is a helping hand. Bella's hand. Your heart will break for him, because he literally does the opposite of what his mind tells him to do, and that is very well portrayed in aWhiteBlankPage's writing. He resembles and lives a realistic life of an addict, one that is determined to quit, but won't until it's too late. The entire story is written from Edward's perspective, and immediately you will realize that this man is, in one simple word, broken and in need of love. Bella does everything she can to reign him back in, but there are things in life that you have to stop on your own and it takes Edward quite a while to do just that. Yes, it is a difficult read, but definitely not an impossible one if you have the patience. It raises a deep message, and I really do salute the author for putting down and writing a story that is so close to her own heart. Don't hesitate to give this story a try because it has a wonderful plot, beautiful characters, a lot of emotions, and a HEA. It's much underrated!

Honest Liar consists of 29 chapters and a total of 86,792 words. The story is rated MA for language, use of drugs, angst, and sexual content.
