"Awaken" by Edward's Eternal

Even though he had always wanted to be a classical musician, Edward Masen was completely and utterly frustrated with what that job eventually entailed. Because being successful also meant to be interviewed by dozens of reporters and living with the fame of a rock star. Millions of people know his name, face, and work, but still Edward feels lonely and incomplete. To make matters worse, he also suffers from hypersensitive eyes which makes him practically blind and unable to tolerate even the slightest amount of light. As a result, Edward always wears shades, protecting his eyes and shielding them from those around him. Due to the events that lead to his tragic disability, Edward is unable to trust others as he believes that people don't actually care about each other but are only faking interest instead - something that would always lead to a broken heart. Enter Bella Swan, one of the five lucky winners allowed to ask questions to the famous musician. It's a charity event that Edward only grumpily attends, yet when he hears the question of this particular young woman he feels like his breath is taken away...

Because unlike with his previous speakers, Edward finds himself eager to answer her question ("What were the emotions within you during your favorite piece of music?") and even talks to her after the event is over. And before she knows what's coming, Bella has a date with him at her house for dinner. Edward immediately realizes his immense attraction towards her and is shocked to admit that Bella is a caring and non-judgmental person. She even demands to see his eyes which she declares to be utterly beautiful, something the young man has never heard before. But because Edward has closed himself off for so long he has problems really committing himself to Bella. With the help of his best friend Emmett and manager Carlisle he works on his problems so that he eventually manages to share his deepest secrets with his girl. It isn't until someone from Edward's past reappears in his life, that things suddenly start to get out of control. From one minute to the next the couple finds themselves in a battle for life and death...

Edward's Eternal has written many great stories, but this one is one of my favorites. It is very easy to connect with Edward and although you desperately want him to stop self-loathing himself all the time, you understand the sentiments that he is going through and can't help but want to comfort him. In addition, it is refreshing to see the little bits of humor that Emmett and Carlisle bring into the story; behind their rude and sarcastic comments lies a deep love for Edward, for whom they'd do anything. Apart from romance and comfort, the fanfic also brings about some drama at the pinnacle of the story and you will find yourself clinging onto your seat to find out what will happen next. Rest assured, the fanfic is definitely a HEA, a very sweet one in fact and at the end of it all, you will be more than satisfied with Awaken. A heartwarming story with twists and turns in every way, but it is all worth it in the end. You will cry, laugh, and love with Musicward, anticipating the happy moments in his life. A story not to be missed!
